Dictation Settings

1 Section Tabs • Click the Dictation tab to view the setting for using Dictation.
2 On | Off • Click the left radio button to turn Dictation on.
3 Enhanced Dictation • Select this checkbox to activate Enhanced Dictation mode, which will download all of the files and frameworks necessary to perform dictation tasks without needing your computer to be connected to the internet.
4 Keyboard Shortcut • Select from one of the standard keyboard shortcuts used to activate Dictation, or choose the “Customize…” menu option to enter your own key-combination.
Text to Speech Settings

1 Section Tabs • Click the Text to Speech tab to view the setting for using Text to Speech.
2 System Voice • (⬆ see above ) Select the voice to use as the default system voice for speaking text, from the popup menu. Optionally, you can use a slider control adjust the speed at which the voice speaks 3 and then preview the adjustment by clicking the Play button 4 in the pane view.
Using Other Voices
In addition to the default system voice that ships with OS X, Apple offers free downloads for high-quality male and female voices for all supported languages.
To preview and download new high-quality voices to your computer, simply select the “Customize…” menu option at the bottom of System Voice popup menu, and in the forthcoming sheet (⬇ see below ) select the voices to be downloaded and installed.
